Green Pebble Carbon

Green Pebble Carbon

Did you know that over a third of the UK’s emissions of greenhouse gases come from businesses? Well we did, and that’s why here at Green Pebble we not only work to make all of our activities carbon neutral, we actually aim to go one better and make a positive contribution to combating climate change.

Like many businesses, most of our emissions come from transport and the use of electricity for lighting and powering office equipment. To reduce our environmental impact we do the following things:

  • We subscribe to a renewable energy tariff for our electricity
  • We only use products made from 100% recycled paper and this includes our headed paper, notepaper, envelopes and business cards
  • We try to use as little paper as possible and recycle all incoming paper and envelopes. We also do simple things like not printing out emails unless we really have to and making sure that we always print on both sides of the paper
  • We only choose environmentally friendly stationery such as pens made from recycled vending machine cups and waste paper, staple-less staplers (no, we aren’t kidding) and recycled files and folders
  • We provide all of our staff with training on energy efficiency and climate change and what they can do outside of work to help reduce their environmental impact
  • We use public transport as much as possible for attending meetings, training and conferences and to help encourage our staff, we refund public transport costs but not car mileage

We know that we can always try to do more to reduce our environmental impact and have produced a corporate Carbon Management Strategy to help us with our objectives. Over the coming year some of the things that we plan to do include:

  • Looking into providing financial incentives for staff choosing hybrid cars
  • Looking to install PV cells or a small-scale wind turbine to produce our own renewable energy
  • Providing a set amount of additional annual leave for staff who wish to volunteer for environmental charities and organisations

In addition, all members of staff have a tree dedicated to them through The Woodland Trust when they join Green Pebble. By doing this we help to support projects which protect our native woodlands here in the UK, as well as arranging tree plantings. Did you know that a tree can absorb up to 730kg of carbon dioxide in its lifetime? This is equivalent to approximately 2,000km of car travel and so supporting tree-planting initiatives helps to offset our employee’s emissions from the start of their Green Pebble career.
